Netarhat- The Queen of Chota Nagpur

Netarhat is  a small hill station located in the Latehar district of Jharkhand. Elevation of Netarhat is  3,696 feet. It is also known as  ‘Queen Of Chota Nagpur ’. Netarhat is full with natural beauty. Seeing the beauty of this place, British officers actually named the place "Nature Heart" which with time changed to "Netarhat". It was a favorite destination of the British officers during summers. The beautiful bungalow which was made during British period is still here.  Dense forests of Sal, Mahua, Kendu, Eucalyptus, Pine and Pears trees covered the entire hill station.

Magnolia Point

Magnolia Point also known as Suicide point is famous  for its spectacular sunset views. There is a story behind the naming of this point.  A British girl named Magnolia fell in love with a local boy. But due to the restrictions of the society, they  committed suicide by jumping off the cliff from here.

Sunrise Point

The sunrise point is the best point to watch a sunrise in Netarhat. It is infront of the Prabhat Bihar hotel. 

Koel View Point

Koel View Point is the perfect place for those loves peace and silence. You can see  the serene Koel river flowing through the green dense forest here .

Pine Forest and Pear Orchards

The pine forest and pear orchards are the accessories that boost the beauty of Netarhat. The long pine trees and the pear orchards make it a perfect  picturesque place. 

Lodh Falls

Lodh fall is the highest waterfall in Jharkhand.  Lodh Falls is located at a distance of 60 KM from Netarhat. The fall has multiple drops, falling from both sides of the hills, one after the other within a short span of distance, which is a unique feature. 

Upper Ghaghri Falls

Upper Ghaghri falls is located at a distance of 4 KM from  Netarhat. It  is a small waterfall. This falls originated from  River Ghaghri.  It an amazing place for a picnic.

Lower Ghaghri Falls

Lower Ghaghri Falls also  originated from river Ghaghri. It is located at a distance of 10 KM from Netarhat and  it is the second highest waterfall in Jharkhand.  Lower Ghaghri fall is surrounded by dense forests. 

Netarhat Dam and Lake

Netarhat Dam and Lake located amidst the long pine grasses and hills. It is  a perfect place for a picnic. You can spend the whole day  sitting on the bank of the lake admiring the blue hills of Netarhat. The lake is  full of  many varieties of fishes such as Rohu, Catla, Mrigal and many more. It is  also a place for bird watching as many local birds visit the lake for fish hunting. 

Best time to visit Netarhat

You can visit Netarhat any time except  the monsoon months of July to September. But the best time to visit Netarhat is during the months of March to April. If you want  to enjoy the chilly winters, then visit  between the months of November to February. 

How to reach Netarhat from Kolkata or Howrah?

The nearest station of Netarhat is Lohardaga. But there are no direct trains from Howrah Junction to Lohardaga.  You can board a train from Howrah Junction to Ranchi Junction. From Ranci Junction there are local bus service for Netarhat. You can get into the bus or can book a cab from here for Netarhat. Another thing you can do is to  board another train from Ranchi Junction to Lohardaga which is a one and a half hours journey. After getting down at Lohardaga book a cab to Netarhat.
